I would spend money on a poor and starving person in a poor country before would spend it on a person in the U.S. Even though there are many needy people in my own country, I believe they have more opportunities and access to services like welfare, unemployment, food stamps, church programs, work programs, etc. They also have far more legal and constitutional rights. Most of the poor and needy in developing countries have nowhere to go for help. If they don't have families to care for them, their situation is utterly hopeless. In developed countries like the U.S. life can be tough but there is always hope for a better tomorrow. In the end, I think it is a matter of seeing all of humanity as your brethren, versus just those who are of the same nationality.
